Letter Example for Genealogy Info

Post by Mark »

Does anyone ever write a letter for information about someone? usually i find info from family as a source. but there is always a "Black Sheep" that no one talks to for what ever reason... you know you are related, but how do you break the ice to try to get some information from that person.

Yes, e-mail tends to be more informal. there are people in the world who do not have it, and will never have an e-mail account. So how do you solve the puzzle...

In the course of doing family history research, I've taken the opportunity to write several individuals for whom I did not have an e-mail address. Usually I expain who I am, how I am related to them, and then share as much information as possible that I have about their immediate family, asking for them to fill in the blanks. Most have written back and shared what they have. I hope this helps!
