Re: Children of John Cummins Rosson, Sr.

Hmm... What was I smoking? These are the grandchildren of Joseph Osborn, not his children. Joseph Osborn's family is given in his will as wife Rebecca (D Patterson) and children James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Rebecca Jane, Mary E, Joseph B, Sarah, and John. His children were John (1812-1897), Samu...

The mystery of Misheal Rosson

I am still trying to work out my Joseph and Rebecca Rossons of Marshall county, but I thought I'd take a moment to post about Misheal Rosson, daughter of John Cummins Rosson, Jr. She is given in his will as Misheal Cook, wife of ___ Short. What goes in the blank depends on what source you look at. T...

Re: The fate of Joseph Rosson, son of John Cummins Rosson Jr

Rebecca Rosson is present in the 1840 census living with 1 male under 5, 1 female 10-14, and one female 15-19. This seems to match up with Joseph Alexander Rosson, Mary B Rosson, and Elizabeth M Rosson. Her entry is immediately followed by Andrew Rosson, her son. However, as I said above: On 7 Oct 1...

Re: The fate of Joseph Rosson, son of John Cummins Rosson Jr

I'm beginning to rethink this. Andrew Laird was the guardian for all of Joseph Osborn's minor heirs, whereas all of Henry B Rosson's minor heirs were placed into the guardianship of William H Rosson. Why would Joseph Rosson's son not also be placed into his uncle's guardianship? Why would he be plac...

John C Lee Rosson

Anybody know who John C Lee Rosson is? He's in the 1850 census living with William Henry Rosson and his family in Rusk Co, TX. He's listed as 24, which would make his birth year around 1826. He's also given as a farmer and born in NC. It's family 869 in the census, or for patrons of ancestry.com, ht...

The fate of Joseph Rosson, son of John Cummins Rosson Jr

One of my burning questions has been what happened to Joseph Rosson, son of John Cummins Rosson Jr. He is mentioned in his father's will, but doesn't appear in the area afterwards. With a common name like Joseph and no clear birth date (I got 1804 from a chatham county website I can't find right now...

Re: Genetic project

Found it: http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Rosson I will say that these things can be useful. My brother submitted DNA for another group and was able to link a dead end with a known immigrant from Scotland. If you believe him, we'll never know through which child of that immigrant ...

Research offer

I will be in Memphis and Houston over the holidays and will be doing genealogical research in both places. Living in a place where the resources are not so great for TN research, I am sympathetic to those who don't quite have the access to information they'd like. As such, if anyone has a specific n...

Genetic project

I was lamenting to myself the fact that there wasn't a Rosson genetic project like there is for other families, when I realized I hadn't actually looked. Poking around, I came across this for anyone interested: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/CumberlandGap-YDNA/ I'm not sure how active this grou...

I will answer my own question and pose 2 more: While poking around, I came across this http://books.google.com/books?id=Cyri5kfMVSQC&pg=PA393&dq=rosson+tennessee&hl=en&ei=cr7aTvG2KoGCgAewsujpDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=rosson%20tennessee&f=false (Scorll down...
